Colt Model 723 (RO723) Transitional Delta Carbine – Pre-1986 M16A2 Transferable
This is an authentic factory Colt RO723 "Delta Carbine" a pre-1986 transferable Title II
NFA machine gun. It is configured as a FULL AUTO (Safe/Semi/Auto) carbine.
Specifications and Transitional Features:
Lower Receiver: A2 lower forging with Colt markings, consistent with transitional
and export production.
Fire Control Group: Marked "Safe / Semi / Auto"; This Auto marking (as opposed
to Burst) distinguishes it from many export/IDF-style examples and adds to its
rarity in the transitional configuration.
Upper Receiver: Transitional with A1 features including sights and teardrop
forward assist; no brass deflector on comparable examples. Fixed carry handle.
Barrel: 14.5-inch pencil (lightweight) profile, chrome-lined, 1/7 twist rate with "7"
marking, carbine-length gas system. Threaded for flash hider; M203 mounting
cuts present on many examples.
Stock: Acrylic coated aluminum two-position collapsible CAR-15 style with
original factory staking.
Handguards: Slim CAR-15 style.
Finish: Colt grey finish with crisp mid-1980s roll marks.
Caliber: 5.56x45mm NATO.
Overall Length: Approximately 31-35 inches (stock extended/retracted).
Weight: Approximately 6-7 lbs unloaded.
This example aligns closely with export/IDF-style Model 723 carbines while featuring the
rarer full "Safe/Semi/Auto" marking. The Model 723 served as a transitional bridge
between M16A1-era CAR-15 designs and the M4 series. It was used by U.S. Army 1st
SFOD-Delta (Delta Force) operators in operations such as Panama (Acid Gambit),
Desert Storm, and Gothic Serpent.
This gun retains original Colt factory assembly characteristics with matching serial
range components typical of commercial/export transitional 723 production. This gun is
in excellent condition with very low round count.
